The fear is that OPs time would go to them regardless if she took up a profession in the thing that has a lot of them. 'Not worth your time' is a phrase that suggests freezing out, ignoring, or walking away from something is the best option, which is a hard thing to do when your job is tied to it.

Having said that, I would encourage op to seek out female dev teams and follow her passion if its something that really makes her happy.

I work in a math/CS academic lab, and while this isn't exactly the same situation, it is similar in the sense that there are a lot more men than women in the workplace.

There isn't any real misogyny, even if some people can be a bit awkward or standoffish. I don't think you have too much to worry about.
