Hallucinations Anonymous 1650

Does anyone ever get auditory or visual hallucinations? I realized I've been hearing voices fighting (a man and a woman) and as soon as I start paying attention they go away.

>These examples suggest hallucinations arise when the brain gives more weight to its expectations and beliefs about the world than to the sensory evidence it receives, says study author and Yale psychiatrist Philip Corlett.
>The findings confirm that, when it comes to how we perceive the world, our ideas and beliefs can easily overpower our senses, Powers says. The work also suggests that the cerebellum is a key checkpoint against this distortion, he adds.

>A 2013 meta-analysis, combining much of the existing data, by Jim van Os of Maastricht University in the Netherlands and Richard Linscott of the University of Otago in New Zealand, found the prevalence of hallucinations and delusions in the general population was 7.2 percent—much higher than the 0.4 percent prevalence of schizophrenia diagnoses found in recent studies.

Can a person with no inner monologue experience auditory hallucinations?

Anyone can hallucinate. It can be caused by extreme stress, lack of sleep, lack of food and water, too hot or extreme exhaustion.

>Anyone can hallucinate.
How the fuck do you know?

Because everyone does every night while they sleep.

Yeah I have schizophrenia. Been hearing voices for about 11 years now.

OP: this may be the tip of the iceberg, there may be more voices you're hearing that you don't realize aren't real.

I have done in the past but only during periods of high stress, and I was depressed at the time. Getting the advice of a doctor would be best, especially if they're persistent or causing you distress.

Idk I was put on Chantix and it made me hallucinate and go into psychosis within a month of taking it. I thought all the nightmares I was having at night were real. Like aliens, the end of the world, etc. It got so bad I started seeing strange light waves during the day and my inner voice split from my understanding of my inner voice and I thought it was God/angels.
It was horrifying. Especially when I didn’t sign up for that trip or even expecting it.
Like the exorcist scary.
Strange thing is though, I never experienced anything like that again when I got better. They just sedated me basically and waited it out.
Chantix is scary.

Because the act of thinking is a mild form of hallucination. (Hearing a voice in your head that no one else can?) Dreaming is another example. "Using your imagination" is another.

Anyone can hallucinate, and under the right conditions, can become dlelusional.

Nothing like you're describing, the most I've experienced sober is hearing my name called out when no one's there, and intense math models I've tried to work through visually.

I feel like ive had hallucinations before, nothing crazy just whispers in the background whenever I feel highly paranoid.

I ingested LSD before, while tripping I'd sometimes see images if I stared at a wall with a light pattern on it. After I tripped though I've had weird flashbacks, one happened last week where I was walking and I glanced down at my foot and saw ants crawling all over it, but when I quickly looked back there was nothing on my foot, it was pretty weird.

yes, mainly when I'm severely stressed. Recently I heard my fiance's voice saying "I'm going to kill myself" and last night I heard him calling me when he wasn't.
