That's pretty dark. I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm a little shocked to know how common this kind of thing is. I can see how events like this would sow seeds of distrust in the minds of those affected. I would suggest confronting him about it but only when you've secured another place to stay and I'd preferably have someone else with you when you do.
