anyone else avoiding going to a psychiatrist or a psychologist? Anonymous 133187

i want to or more so i feel like i need to go, but i hate the idea of having to pay for someone to listen to me and understand me. nobody in my life wants to hear out my problems and it sickens me because thats the first thing i would do for them. i know therapy is more than that, but ultimately i would only go just to be heard for a little and be understood without anyone judging me. but it feels so not worth it. i dont even have a job why should i spend so much money just to talk to someone for an hour. isnt that what friends are for…

I got to therapy and it's cool but expensive and I dont talk about nearly half the stuff I want to because all the other things take up all the time and there are other times when something i say just sounds weird but mostly one specific thing over shadows everything

Right. My sentiments exactly. But psychiatrists don't deal with that, their business is drugging you with pills.

I dont trust psychiatrists/therapists at all. Unless someone has schizophrenia or something I feel therapy is largely unnecessary and self indulgent

I have been going for a year but I think I need a break. It feels like another task now and I feel like I say things to get kudos and praise even if it’s not true. I hate being a people pleaser.

I'm going there as a part of "working on myself" to work on my avoidant attachment but I'm not sure I expect progress. anyone have a good experience with it?

therapy is only helpful if you need coaching on how to make healthier decisions, but ultimately you need to get to a place where you can do things independently and don't have to pay for a support system.

i feel like people who are in therapy for 30+ years a re being scammed, unless they're like severely ill and have no one.

i only work with psychiatrists that are very, very conservative in their prescribing and take what i need help with into consideration, and do not have some sort of weird narrative about me.

it takes time to find the right provider unfortunately, but i am grateful for my current shrink because he actually listens to me about my PMDD and mental afflictions.

he doesn't view me as broken, just someone who could benefit from some medical interventions so i'm not suffering all the time.

i hate ssris tho. those are kinda scammy if you take them longterm. good habits and sobriety will get u there imo after ur baseline is sorted with learning how to be disciplined. discipline is a skill rooted in compassion and takes time like any other. you can't really force the process.

lamictal has helped me a lot, as well as gabapentin and a minipill for my pmdd. i feel lowkey halfway cured and i just started everything like 2 weeks ago. i just need to build better habits.

i'm 1.5 abstinent from drugs too and it helped to not complicate my brain as much.

source: been in therapy since i was 10 years old and chronically ill since birth. it's been a rollercoaster and somehow i'm still here.

Licensed therapists are a lot cheaper than psychologists and psychiatrists. Started seeing one after my mental break in January. Doing a lot better now but had two instances of near relapse so I'm continuing with it for now. The one I have is actually conscientious about cost and whether or not I actually need to keep going at the same rate. She was the one who suggested I might be good to drop from weekly to biweekly and we've discussed going to monthly but I don't feel ready for that yet.

I'm too scared to go to one honestly

if you`re scared of judgement you might end up like me. almost 2 years in therapy now and i hide most my problems to appear as competent and functional as possible and even lie sometimes out of shame like a retard. luckily i have public health insurance so its just a waste of time and not money.
