Maybe how dark and think it is depends on your race. But having some sort of hair is common, especially as you get older.

I shave my lip once a week and that seems to be sufficient.

I have a few darker hairs but it's all really fine so you only really notice if you're right up in my face. I just pluck it once a month or so or whenever I really notice it.
If you have the money go for laser I guess.

I think if waxing is really painful for you or if shaving/nair/etc makes you breakout, it would be worth it, especially if you can get it done with a home machine. But otherwise, they're pretty expensive, at least more expense than wax. I'm sorry this upsets you, but you shouldn't let it. Hair is natural and honestly, it means you have strong genes. The way my bf comforts me about is he says, "hey don't worry, one day all that extra T will give us strong sons" which is an uncouth way to put it, but it makes me feel a lot better, so I thought I'd mention it. <3
