Google to start deleting inactive YouTube accounts and videos Anonymous 30783

>Starting later this year, if a Google Account has not been used or signed into for at least 2 years, we may delete the account and its contents – including content within Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar), YouTube and Google Photos.
>While the policy takes effect today, it will not immediately impact users with an inactive account — the earliest we will begin deleting accounts is December 2023.

If you want to know how to fight this, participate in contributing towards Operation Download & Conquer.

They walked back on it, they won't delete accounts that have Youtube videos associated with them.

And, you believe them?

NTA but whenever google decides to do something retarded/anticonsumer they will put up a flimsy excuse but they won't lie about the measure not being employed.
If they feel like deleting old youtube videos they will go ahead and uncaringly do so while claiming they had a motive, they won't say they'll back off then stab you out of the blue.
Though I could be totally wrong still.

sad face emoticon.…

First they hide the option behind an unnecessarily long and complicated row of hidden menus, then they remove it citing low usage as the reason. It's what they did to private messages, playlist notes (which were very useful for keeping track of deleted and privated videos), annotations, user-made subtitles and a whole host of other features.

They'll probably find some roundabout way to do it this time as well. Maybe unlist the videos first, or sink them in the algorithm, then delete them a year or two later.

The only thing I'm wondering is the reason for why they're doing this. Other than clearing up data space, of course. Someone somewhere mentioned trying to avoid data-crawling AI?

I believe them.
Honestly my theory is that this is a tried and true method corporations like to do
>We're gonna do all sorts of terrible things
>Everyone gets upset
>Ah nevermind we won't do one of those things
>Everyone feels relieved
They're still gonna be deleting a lot of stuff but now people aren't upset anymore because Youtube was spared.

I would suggest using archive.org in order to upload any saved Youtube content you may have.
