Wicked Anonymous 35987

Did you enjoy it?

Thought the singing, choreography, was excellent

Has anyone watched it who has watched the musical? I'm a massive fan of the Broadway show and am curious what someone else who has seen it thinks. Is it a good adaptation? Is it really different? I'm mostly looking for a warning on if it's a great movie but bad adaption so I don't let my love for the original cloud my judgement if it's really good anyways. I'm also curious as to how they filled in the extra time. It would be cute if they added more Galinda/Elphie scenes like from the book

I've seen the broadway show twice and went in with the lowest expectations possible after the months and months of drama and marketing. turns out it's really good! there are differences, but the changes they've made lean into the advantages of movie musicals, like close-up shots and less restrained production. the longer runtime slows the pacing down, but I felt like it actually worked because the musical just goes SO fast, and by the end I didn't even notice it and I was ready for an intermission and part two
I will say, maybe don't listen to the album before seeing it, because it might spoil some nice easter eggs and surprises they've added to the music :)

Sweet thanks so much! I'll try and catch it in theatres this week then. Also thanks so much for the heads up about the album! Definitely would have listened to it first otherwise

Anonymous 35995

I want to see it, but I'm not used to seeing musicals and I don't know the story well. Should I see the Wizard of Oz first?

Anonymous 35997

It stands on its own, some of the twists and plot revelations will be a bit less impactful for you but nothing should be confusing. It's probably worth having a passing knowledge of the plot/main characters of the wizard of Oz movie but not necessary

Cynthia and Ariana blew me away. Can't wait for part 2 to release!

why is this movie being shilled everywhere, even here

Anonymous 36055

Cynthia Erivo's behavior put me off watching the movie unfortunately. Wish I had gotten to see the Broadway show with Idina Menzel.

why wouldn't a movie with two female leads, based on a broadway musical with a large pre-existing fanbase, with a reported 72% of watchers being female https://deadline.com/2024/11/box-office-wicked-gladiator-ii-1236184897/ , be discussed on this website?

Anonymous 36072

that high note at the end

(this song isn't a spoiler, it's the opening song)

Gee, I didn't know Cynthia Erivo posted here? You see any more triggering movie poster edits?

THIS BOARD IS GREEN
ELPHABA IS GREEN

Anonymous 36081

Making the black woman green seems really weird. I only read the books, didn't see the play, but Elphaba being green was because the Wizard of Oz was her bio dad after he gave Elphaba's mother some green snake oil. She wasn't a racism allegory. The talking Animals were the allegory (worse, I know.) Just looks so uncanny to make her green.
