I read it because a girl I liked liked it. Lost interest when we grew apart. Obviously I was never in the fandom but it is nostalgic.

I saw the trailer the voice acting sounded horrendous. I can't stand most animated voice acting it sounds so bad and forced. Homestuck didn't have any and we were all so grateful for the fact.

I read it back in the day and got disinterested around the time the alphas were introduced, and stopped when the story went on endlessly about the ugly green cherubs. It's sort of a fascinating topic though. It was such an interesting mix of actual multimedia storytelling and had really compelling elements, including the (accidental?) marketing genius of the exact formula every character followed. There was some insanely good fan work for it, but the fandom was also what made it crash and burn. I really don't think AH ever intended for it to get so big, and his disdain for the fandom was palpable, especially at some point his frustration sabotaged his own project. Which was absolutely understandable. I still don't get why this story attracted one of the most legendarily feral fanbase. I remember that a lot of fans didn't even read the text and just watched the animations. It'll forever be a cautionary tale for me. I've had some success with putting works online and getting people involved with it but always got a bit uneasy when people got too attached to my stuff. At a certain point you lose all control over your own work and what people do with it or read into it is out of your hands.
