Do you avoid romance media because you're lonely nona? Anonymous 37872
I like romance but I can't watch it without feeling miserable about my own love life, so I avoid it. I wondered if any of you felt similarly.

>>37872Im sorta neutral to it. But, I also prefer to watch non romance stories and just pair the characters together and project onto that.
I suppose I am lonely, but i'm at the stage where I crave intimate friendship more than romance.
Anonymous 37875
>>37873That makes sense. The times in my life without any friendship have been really hard.

I avoid it because it's just kinda boring and sucks most of the time. You've seen one Hallmark romcom you've seen them all. The rest are overly porny or feature horrific moid shit that's treated as romantic (like 50 Shades Of Gray which does of those). I don't really feel loneliness when I see it but I'm just uninterested. I don't care about watching people being couples irl why would I care in a movie or a show? I only really like it as a side plot to something else (like 2 characters being a couple but the main plot is about something else). Basically like what Sokka and Suki were in Avatar. I also can't stand last second relationships because Will They Won't They is annoying and I'd rather see the characters interact as a couple than have the story end when they get together because then that implies that the characters whole purpose was to get together at the end

I avoid romance media because it's too pornographic for me. I want to read a love story that focuses on love, not descibes dirty sex.
Anonymous 37886
>>37872Media like that makes life as rich as it can possibly be without the actual hell of vetting moids so no

I found otome games pretty fun, but in hindsight I wasn't thinking of romance while playing them, just cute guys.

>>37887You know actually now that you mention otomes, I don't really avoid them. It's depressing but otomes do make me feel slightly fulfilled romantically speaking. Otomes don't really make me want a real relationship, or make me feel lonely like other romance media does.

>>37872i avoid romance because none of it is any good
Anonymous 37933
>>37872Well I don't really watch romance or write it either, but I hate actual moids and want them to stay a million miles away from me. I like things that are written well enough. I love writing my own things. I refuse to put it any category, it encompasses way more than that. I love bl that I've come up, I can watch it like a movie in my mind sometimes, its better than most shit out there so I won't consume most of what other fujo's do I don't see the point
But no I want nothing to do with actual moid relationshit I'm not lonely like that and thank Jesus Mary and Joseph for dodging that minefield

>>37943I mean yeah most of it. But some works, especially those written by women, can be pretty good.
Anonymous 37951
>>37941Mostly straight. I'm not closed off to it, but I have no experience dating women only men.

>>37872I just want to consume media that's not garbage. I don't gravitate to or avoid any genre. Avoid it because I'm lonely though? That makes zero sense even if you are lonely.
If it's good I will watch it. In the last decade almost all of it turns me off because it's crap, not because it's romance.
Anonymous 38163
>>38156>Avoid it because I'm lonely though? That makes zero sense even if you are lonelyIt's just logic. If seeing food can make you hungry why wouldn't romance make you yearn love?
Anonymous 38166
>>38163Because you have to eat to stay alive? Love is just fraught with seemingly endless annoyance from the opposite sex. Making romantic love that important to you makes you unstable/ easily manipulated. Maybe some people subconsciously approach life with the goal to enjoy life rather than be held hostage by it like that

>>38166tbh I agree with this, romantic media is nothing like real life romance
Anonymous 38204
It's just stupid and they're all cash grabs without any sincerity. I tried a couple times thinking maybe just maybe I'm wrong but every time I came back realizing I was right all along, as always.

Straight romance media is either a snoozefest or makes me roll my eyes every 5 seconds or so, I find yaoi and yuri more interesting on average.
So essentially I do avoid straight romance, but can tolerate it if its not too obnoxious. I like yaoi and yuri better but romance isn't exactly my #1 favorite genre so I usually don't go out of my way to find it. None of this is because I'm lonely, however.
Anonymous 38252
>>38208I avoid straight romance too because I hate how women are written. Can we name any straight romance where they show a future shot of the old and gray couple and they're just happily hanging out and never had children? That's a big part that fucks me up. If I like a female character, she's usually a cool adventure lady, and to see her fate as being demoted to pregnant and/or nurturing just ruins the whole thing. Kids ruin adventure and romance, I don't want to see anything to do with the topic.
This usually doesn't happen with the gay male ships. Though with the trans stuff in the past 10 years, I've seen more art where they turn one female and she ends up pregnant anyway, so I can't even get away from it that way anymore. I've learned that I don't hate romance, I hate contrivances and unequal relationships that are treated as normal.

>>38252this reminds me how a lot of the time the mc in otome games is an amorphous blob. she's often timid, lame and lacks initiative.
I mean it makes sense, MCs in romance are often like that so the other characters have more space to shine, but I just think it is lame. I want something like female Rance

i like looking at romance media with rly abusive relationships - not that i want them irl lol. it just makes me feel better about myself and its on the same entertainment level as true crime
