Yes. I've had both male and female bisexual friends and it's just a weird form of denial and bi-erasure. I've been told the bisexual female community mostly focuses on bi women who date men, so female-preferring bi women just assume they must be lesbians despite liking men sometimes. Bi men are lumped in with gay men (go to the same bars, use the same hook-up apps, etc.) so female-preferring bi men who don't want to live a "gay lifestyle" consider themselves straight. Pop culture seems to treat bisexual as "50% gay 50% straight" when most I've known have preferences in one way or another.
